As a Senior Test Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering secure, reliable, and accessible IT solutions for NICHD’s application and website portfolio. You’ll be responsible for building and enhancing test automation frameworks using

Cypress , collaborating with cross‑functional teams, and ensuring compliance with federal standards including Section 508, FISMA, and HHS policies.

Assessment & Transition

Conduct initial assessments of existing test processes, plans, and procedures; identify opportunities to transition manual tests to automated solutions using Cypress in alignment with NICHD’s technical environment.

Support transition‑in and transition‑out activities, ensuring continuity of testing and documentation.

Automation Framework Design & Development

Design reusable automation components/modules for use across multiple test scripts, leveraging Cypress and best practices.

Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for web applications, APIs, and databases in Azure and on‑prem environments.

Integrate Cypress automation into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and support all stages Development, Staging, UAT, and Production.

Test Planning & Execution

Review user stories and requirements to create comprehensive test cases, scripts, and suites.

Analyze and identify suitable opportunities for test automation, including regression, smoke, data integrity, security, and Section 508 accessibility testing.

Develop automation components using parameterized data from external sources (e.g., spreadsheets).

Execute automated and manual test plans, log issues, and support resolution.

Quality Assurance & Reporting

Prepare and submit detailed monthly progress reports, documenting test efforts, open issues, risks, and corrective actions.

Contribute to program management plans, transition plans, and final reports as required by NICHD contract deliverables.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with developers, business analysts, project managers, and stakeholders to define requirements, acceptance criteria, and ensure quality deliverables.

Participate in weekly and monthly meetings to discuss assignments, quality control, and delivery schedules.

Compliance & Security

Ensure all testing activities comply with federal standards (Section 508, FISMA, HHS, NIH, NICHD).

Support vulnerability scanning, remediation, and incident response as required.

Extensive experience with Cypress as the primary test automation platform.

Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks, DevOps practices, and integration of test automation into CI/CD pipelines.

Proven ability to design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks and reusable components using Cypress.

Experience with web application, API, and database testing in cloud (Azure) and on‑prem environments.

Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility standards and compliance testing.

Ability to plan, document, and execute manual and automated test plans.

U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder (required for federal contract).

Team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Self‑motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently.

Critical thinker with strong problem‑solving abilities.

Experience with AI/ML/RPA technologies and automation in federal (particularly NIH) or healthcare environments.

Knowledge of federal contracting, reporting requirements, and deliverables management.

Certifications in software testing (e.g., ISTQB, CSTE), cloud technologies, or security (e.g., CISSP, CISM) are a plus.
