Senior FPGA Design Engineer II at Owl Cyber Defense. Location: Danbury, CT. Office: On site, hybrid (can be remote for those in Eastern or Central time zones). Job Summary Owl has an immediate opening for an FPGA Design Engineer as our work and team is expanding. This role will have a significant role in defining and implementing new designs for FPGA-based hardware for internet protocol packet inspection and post-processing of high-speed Ethernet traffic. This position is a lead designer role in a high visibility program.

Responsibilities

Design and develop an FPGA packet handling application with custom hardware.

Design and develop VHDL/SystemVerilog modules and IP cores with Xilinx/Altera toolchains.

Use Cadence Xcelium for logic simulation.

Implement communications protocols from specification and requirement documents.

Ensure low latency and high throughput packet handling.

Set up and test new hardware platforms that are developed.

Work effectively within a cross-functional team environment.

Other duties as management may direct.

Able to work in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education : College degree in a relevant field of study (e.g., computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science) with advanced degree a plus.

Experience : 10+ years’ work experience with embedded systems and FPGA development.

Travel : Limited travel may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

Technical: Fluent in VHDL and SystemVerilog; HDL simulation & verification (Cadence Xcelium, Modelsim, etc.); UVM experience a plus; working knowledge of Vivado or Quartus; knowledge of Ethernet PHY, IPv4 and IPv6 protocols; UDP and TCP/IP packet handling; knowledge of computer system architecture; experience debugging system-level problems; experience with testing hardware.

Soft/Coordination: Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking; overall coordination, development, and execution of product development.

Software/System: Linux systems development; C/C++ for embedded systems; ARM environment experience; embedded Linux; building and configuring Linux for custom hardware platforms a plus.

Security: Candidates must be eligible to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance.
