is seeking a motivated Environmental Engineer or Geologist with 2 - 8 years of professional experience to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, up-and-coming, collaborative firm where your contributions have a direct impact.

What You’ll Do Our team is small, and we all wear many hats. This means you’ll gain experience across a wide variety of responsibilities, including:

Conducting field activities at contaminated sites:

environmental drilling, soil logging and sampling, well installation and development, groundwater sampling and aquifer testing, excavation monitoring and construction oversight, and soil gas sampling. Short term, expect to be in the field about 25-50% of your time, recognizing that some weeks will be more and some will be less.

Managing tasks and projects:

supporting and managing tasks and projects of varying size and complexity, including preparing scope and fee estimates, managing budgets, preparing monthly invoices, and coordinating with project stakeholders.

Analyzing and compiling data:

prepare hydrographs, graphical representations of water quality and subsurface conditions such as geologic cross-sections or contaminant plume maps, develop conceptual site models.

Writing proposals and technical reports:

support the preparation of written deliverables such as proposals, Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments, Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Cleanup Action Plans, Remedial Action Reports, and more.

Engaging with community members and developing relationships:

communicate directly with clients, subcontractors, community members, regulators, teaming partners, colleagues, and other stakeholders to meet project goals and objectives.

Supporting administrative and company initiatives:

as needed or as time allows and according to your interests, support various administrative efforts and business operations such as graphic design and social media, health and safety program management, diversity and inclusion program development, field equipment maintenance, marketing efforts, etc.

What We’re Looking For At Black River, we are all talented, self-motivated, and purpose-driven professionals who manage our time and consistently deliver great work. Additional preferred qualifications and experience for our next team member include:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or Hydrogeology.

2 - 8 years of relevant environmental consulting experience.

Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Ability to work remotely, independently and collaboratively on field and office tasks.

Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or ability to obtain).Professional licensure (EIT, GIT, PE, LG, LHG) in Washington State.

Experience with Washington State cleanup regulations (MTCA) is required.
