Dynamics Test Engineer
– Impulse Space, Assembly, Integration & Test, Redondo Beach, CA
Compensation:
$105,000 - $165,000 / year
Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and execute vibration and shock tests (sine, random, combined environments)
Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot vibration test equipment (electrodynamic shakers, slip tables, control systems)
Develop detailed test plans, procedures, instrumentation setups aligned with project requirements, MIL‑STD‑810, NASA GEVS, DO‑160, etc.
Monitor and control test execution, ensuring accurate data collection and safe operation
Analyze test data, generate technical reports, and communicate results and recommendations to engineering teams
Collaborate with design and dynamics engineers to refine product designs
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements during all test operations
Support continuous improvement of test processes, equipment calibration, and lab infrastructure
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
3+ years of direct experience in vibration and shock testing for aerospace, automotive, or related industries
Proficiency with vibration test systems, vibration controllers, and data acquisition systems
Proficiency in data analysis using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools
Excellent technical writing and documentation skills
Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting capabilities
Preferred Skills and Experience
Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
Strong understanding of environmental test standards (MIL‑STD‑810, DO‑160, NASA GEVS, etc.)
Experience in aerospace hardware qualification and flight hardware certification testing
Knowledge of structural dynamics and finite element analysis (FEA)
Familiarity with other environmental tests (thermal, acoustic, EMI/EMC)
Ability to manage multiple test campaigns in a fast‑paced environment
Additional Information Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Base salary is determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on technical capabilities, experience, and internal equity. Full‑time hires may be eligible for long‑term incentives in the form of stock options, medical, vision & dental coverage, and access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
Impulse Space’s spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations including ITAR and EAR.
