Senior Staff Regulatory Consultant
McMillen is seeking a highly motivated and self‑directed Senior Staff Regulatory Consultant with 5+ years of experience to support regulatory and natural resources projects across California. The role spans project inception through permitting and compliance.
Responsibilities
Support clients with project management, strategy development, stakeholder outreach and consultation, technical workgroup support, and management of technical consultants.
Prepare and manage well‑written regulatory documents and environmental permit applications that adhere to required state and federal requirements.
Synthesize scientific, technical, and policy information to produce clear, well‑organized written information for broad audiences.
Research and interpret environmental regulations and policies to support permitting and compliance strategies.
Provide quality assurance reviews of technical and regulatory documentation, including environmental assessments, permit applications, and study plans.
Balance multiple tasks and projects in a deadline‑driven work environment.
Support client and stakeholder meetings, including preparation of agendas, materials, and summaries.
Prepare proposals and other related marketing documents.
Build partnerships and work collaboratively to meet shared objectives.
Work independently with effective communication via phone, email, and remote meeting platforms.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Hydrology, Public/Environmental Policy, or a related natural science. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in California ecosystem restoration design, CEQA, NEPA, and regulatory permitting, with familiarity in natural resources work (fisheries, wildlife, aquatic connectivity). Southern California experience supporting LA River and other watersheds preferred.
Compensation Package
Pay Range: $92,000 – $118,000
