Veterinarian – Vetco Total Care Full Service Hospital Petco is a category‑defining health and wellness company focused on improving the lives of pets, pet parents and Petco partners. We operate 250+ veterinary hospitals and hundreds of preventive care clinics.

At our Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals, the veterinarian position is the most immersive role in the hospital. All hospital partners are responsible for performing duties in a way that creates an environment in which the patient’s needs always come first.

Essential Job Functions

Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing diseases, and providing preventive care.

Utilize a problem‑based approach to develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans.

Document all patient observations, findings, and treatments in the medical record.

Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal explorations, and mass removals.

Perform routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examinations and oral surgical procedures.

Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization and communicate with referral hospitals.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at the beginning and end of shifts.

Disseminate knowledge throughout staff to improve the level of care and communication.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school.

Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state of the hospital.

Current DEA license.

Current Controlled Substance license if applicable.

USDA Category I accreditation or completion within 2 months of hire date.

Must be comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compassionate and able to maintain a professional attitude during stressful situations.

Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments.

Work Environment Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Majority of duties conducted in the full‑service hospital.

Compensation Salary range: $95,600 – $203,000. Additional benefits include health, 401K, PTO, and incentives.
