About The Organization The Statewide Guardian ad Litem Office is Florida’s award‑winning, state‑funded child advocacy organization that provides independent legal representation to abused, abandoned and neglected children in dependency court proceedings. Guardian ad Litem Attorneys are assigned to represent children as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes a child welfare professional and a community volunteer or pro bono attorney.

About The Opportunity The Lead Attorney assists the Managing Attorney in managing the legal team. The Lead Attorney must be a Senior Attorney with at least 3 years’ experience with the Office and should demonstrate leadership ability and organizational skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
Special litigation in designated area(s) of subject‑matter expertise.
Supervision of attorneys throughout the circuit as assigned in the area of special litigation/expertise.
Supervision of attorneys in assigned county/counties.
Review motions and assist attorneys in developing legal strategy.
Represent the Office on committees with community partners.
Provide legal training to new volunteers and ongoing training in assigned area of special litigation.
Assist the Managing Attorney in implementing Statewide Office policies and procedures and developing internal procedures for the legal team.
Serve as acting Managing Attorney as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Attorney.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Legal skills sufficient to represent children, evidenced by admission to the Florida Bar.
Knowledge of juvenile law, relevant rules of procedure and evidence.
Effective court advocacy on behalf of children.
Effective communication and tact in stressful situations.
Work with individuals from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
Proficiency with personal computer and common office software.
Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in the Florida Bar.
Two years of experience in the practice of dependency or related law (strong trial skills preferred).
Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Exception for required experience may be granted by the Executive Director or designee.
