Position Summary Posting Note: The Division of Hematology / Oncology at Phoenix Children’s seeks full‑time, board‑eligible / board‑certified pediatric hematologist‑oncologists with an interest in benign hematology, immune deficiencies and white blood cell disorders, or bone marrow failure syndromes. Experience in research and programmatic development is of interest as we aim to grow our programs in these areas.

Responsibilities include clinical care, teaching, and participation in clinical research. The candidate will be an integral and interactive member of the Division of Hematology / Oncology / BMT in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and participate in inpatient and outpatient management of hematology patients.

Our Center is the major referral center in the Southwestern region, seeing approximately a new cohort of hematology patients per year. We currently have a large hematology patient population with close to congenital bleeding disorder patients followed at our federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, sickle cell / thalassemia patients, and near‑new thrombosis patients per year. We have multidisciplinary clinics for hemophilia and other congenital bleeding disorders, immunohematology, neurovascular diseases, sickle cell / thalassemia, and other chronically transfused patients with diagnoses including bone marrow failure and RBC enzyme deficiencies. The hematology team is a multidisciplinary, multidisciplinary team committed to state‑of‑the‑art care for patients in the Southwest. We also have active clinical and laboratory research programs, and multiple open clinical trials. This is a growing population and we are looking for someone who desires to continue expanding and developing this program.

Successful candidates must be board eligible / board certified in pediatric hematology‑oncology and have an interest in hematology. Applicants should have the ability to work with teams on patient‑focused, division‑centric, and hospital‑wide initiatives.

The staff physician shall provide patient care services and will support the PC mission of providing hope, healing, and the best health care for children and their families.

Position Duties

Patient Care Services

Provide patient care services for which he/she is clinically privileged, including but not limited to:

a) Provide direct patient care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis

b) Provide subspecialty consultations and follow‑up

c) Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services / procedures

d) Provide these services for urgent / emergent care as necessary

Strive to achieve the best patient and family centered care

Support hospital patient satisfaction goals as well as division‑specific targets

Support and adhere to divisional patient safety and quality of care standards

Practice contemporary evidence‑based medicine or latest experience‑based medicine

Divisional Responsibilities

Establish and demonstrate effort to achieve annual physician goals and objectives (e.g., individual, division, hospital)

Support medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:

a) Provide direct supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals for the delivery of inpatient and outpatient services when applicable

b) Conduct teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences for trainees

c) Participate in the teaching and supervision of trainees and allied health care professionals assigned to the division

d) Participate in postgraduate continuing educational activities of the division

Support research endeavors of the division including initiatives by other members of the division

Support programmatic growth of division

Support satellite efforts of division when appropriate

Professionalism

Other Activities

Physician shall support the Division Chief in their role as liaison to the professional community and general public as requested by the Division Chief

Physician may conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside of PCH, particularly if these activities support divisional clinical and teaching programs / initiatives

Physician shall represent PCH in the medical and business communities and before the general public in a professional manner

The following physical and mental skills are essential for successful performance of the foregoing duties and responsibilities:

a) The ability to communicate by telephone, computer, or other communication devices

b) The ability to perform after‑hours or night call responsibilities as needed

c) The ability to work regular scheduled work hours
