Overview
Join as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager for Cell Assembly at Tesla’s new Texas Gigafactory. Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineering Manager to create, develop, and take on responsibility for state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing processes in one of the most complex and challenging manufacturing environments. The Battery Cell Manufacturing Engineering Team is not for the faint of heart – changing the world isn’t easy. It is an opportunity to work alongside some of the industry’s top experts on the most stimulating challenges of the 21st Century. In addition to developing manufacturing processes, this role is responsible for leading cross‑functional teams throughout the manufacturing line lifecycle. The new member of Manufacturing Engineering will work in lockstep with the Design for Manufacturability team, Product Excellence (Quality), Production Engineering, Production, and New Product Introduction (NPI) to take new manufacturing designs and processes from initial concept, through prototype development, and into full production. We expect this person to take pride in hands‑on work, analytical ability, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
What You’ll Do
Oversee engineering activities from inception to closure ensuring alignment with manufacturing goals and timelines
Drive reductions in CapEx, BOM, and manufacturing costs through innovative processes and operational improvements
Mentor the engineering team and collaborate with production, controls, and construction teams
Improve Gigafactory Texas operations by refining procedures and troubleshooting equipment installations
Maintain detailed process records, develop DFMEA/PFMEA documentation, and validate automation systems
Use tools to monitor engineering tasks and personnel activities
Present funding requests and production updates to Tesla leadership
Coordinate with construction teams to install and commission global production lines
Accelerate production launches, train teams, and deliver handover documentation
Meet aggressive launch schedules while ensuring seamless transitions to operational teams
What You’ll Bring
Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar
5+ years manufacturing engineering + 3+ years engineering leadership (senior roles for higher experience)
Mechanical assembly expertise: tolerance analysis, adhesive bonding, pressing
Data‑driven problem solving: root cause analysis, JMP/statistical tools
Automated line design: PLC programming, HMI, motion control
New equipment/process implementation in production environments
High‑volume manufacturing experience in key areas: Automated assembly, precision manufacturing, vision systems, Laser processing, welding, battery tech, vacuum systems
Poise under pressure: manage competing demands, tight deadlines
Production quality metrics knowledge + exceptional communication
Analytical rigor, organizational skills, attention to detail
