Senior Wastewater Process Engineer – Black & Veatch Black & Veatch is an employee‑owned company dedicated to building sustainable infrastructure. The Senior Wastewater Process Engineer will lead design and execution of conventional and emerging wastewater treatment systems on critical projects worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Lead design and technical guidance for conventional wastewater treatment processes (activated sludge, nutrient removal, MBR, membrane bio‑reactors, tertiary filtration and disinfection).

Prepare detailed engineering deliverables including process models, mass‑balance calculations, P&IDs, trade‑off studies, and master‑planning studies.

Supervise engineering staff and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement complex treatment solutions.

Conduct applied research, bench‑scale, pilot and full‑scale testing, and incorporate data into process models.

Develop recommendations for treatment processes, equipment, and material selection.

Provide technical support to business development, client focus, and quality and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s or PhD in civil, environmental or chemical engineering.

10+ years of wastewater treatment experience with at least 5 years in water quality and treatment design.

Advanced process design knowledge for municipal wastewater, and proficiency in BioWin, GPS‑X, Sumo or Simba.

Strong leadership skills with experience in consulting, project execution and client services.

Excellent written and oral communication, and a disciplined approach to results and team building.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program.

Minimum 11 years of related professional experience.

Ability to obtain a U.S. professional engineering license within 2 years.

Pre‑employment background checks and drug screening required.

Certifications U.S. professional engineering license, or ability to obtain one within 2 years.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

Hybrid work options after 90 days, typical office and construction environments with exposure to chemicals, noise, and variable weather.

Work requires standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs, and ergonomic keyboarding for extended periods.

Salary Plan Engineering compensation, Job Grade 017, annual range $111,206.00 – $211,764.00.
