Summary of the Position We are seeking a highly experienced and detail‑oriented
Payroll Administrator
to lead payroll operations and support Payroll administration at our manufacturing facility. This role requires deep expertise in payroll processing, compliance, and system integrations, and plays a critical part in ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory alignment across all payroll functions.
The
Payroll Administrator
position is located at the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing facility in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the Director of Human Resources.
At this time, we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Independently manage weekly, bi‑weekly, and monthly payroll cycles across diverse employee groups.
Review and verify timecard entries; work closely with supervisors to resolve any discrepancies.
Ensure accurate integration of new hire data across payroll and benefits platforms (Workday, Benefit Solver, Fidelity).
Maintain and troubleshoot system interfaces with external vendors.
Perform complex payroll calculations, including garnishments, levies, commissions, and insurance deductions.
Manage payroll tax registrations and updates across multiple states (State Withholding and SUI).
Assist employees with tax form updates and inquiries (W‑4, State/Local).
Prepare and distribute W‑2 forms and other year‑end payroll reports.
Act as the primary contact for payroll‑related questions and issue resolution.
Ensure accurate processing, documentation, distribution, and reconciliation of payroll, including system administration.
Audit pay computations and deductions for accuracy.
Stay current with city, state, provincial, and federal payroll legislation and ensure compliance.
Prepare required tax filings and reports; may coordinate with external payroll service providers.
Address and resolve employee inquiries regarding paychecks and payroll reporting, escalating issues as needed.
Requires an associate degree or equivalent; work is largely independent and collaborative.
Proactively contributes beyond core responsibilities by adapting to evolving priorities, supporting cross‑functional initiatives, and taking ownership of emerging needs to drive team and organizational success.
Compliance & Reporting
Ensure payroll operations adhere to federal, state, and local regulations.
Provide documentation and support for internal and external audits.
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
5–7 years of hands‑on payroll experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and multi‑state tax requirements.
Experience with Workday and UKG Pro preferred.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Exposure to international payroll is a plus.
