Manufacturing Engineer – Space Hardware, Project Kuiper
Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
Key Job Responsibilities
Write work instructions, troubleshoot non-conformances and help execute critical satellite assembly build and test campaigns, including hands‑on work.
Definition & implementation of Work Order and standard operating procedures.
Design and run experiments/test articles to support process development for various subsystems.
Assist with developing manufacturing processes for automated quality SPC.
Work with engineering and technician teams to plan line layouts for Assembly, Integration & Test to intended throughput capacities.
Specify, design and help procure various assembly equipment, tools and systems to meet program development requirements.
Interface with facilities personnel on site development and utility requirements definition.
AIT takt time & cost optimization planning.
Review designs for manufacturability and sign off for design release.
Must be willing to work off shifts and weekends as required.
Export Control Requirement Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Basic Qualifications
1+ years of integration, testing and automation experience.
4+ years of working in manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience.
1+ year experience with Computer Aided Design tools such as Solidworks or NX/Unigraphics.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing testing and tuning.
Related experience from internships or college organizations—Technical writing experience, including work instructions, standard operating procedures and/or test plans.
Experienced with various automated manufacturing processes, including assembly and test methods at component level, subsystem, and system level.
Experienced with handling and tracking systems for continuous material flow to manufacturing lines.
Experience supporting both Development and Production programs.
Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, etc.) a plus.
Strong organizational, analytical, root cause analysis and problem solving skills.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
