Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and assist dentists during procedures.
  • Welcome, comfort, and educate patients on oral hygiene and post‑treatment care.
  • Take and develop X‑rays, assist with impressions, and maintain study models.
  • Ensure infection control protocols, maintain patient confidentiality, and follow workplace regulations.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, including scheduling and patient intake.
  • Help dentist manage emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a one‑year certified dental assistant program
  • Six months of on‑the‑job experience (with supporting documentation)
  • X‑ray certification
  • Nitrous oxide certification is highly recommended
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Maintain annual OSHA, HIPAA, CPR, and infection control training as required by law.
