Responsibilities

  • Efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring thepheresis process, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform all aspects of thepheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, donor monitoring, and donor disconnect.
  • Perform venipuncture on donors to initiate thepheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
  • Educate new donors on donated plasma products, screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other relevant information.
  • Maintain alertness to any donor reaction and assist or notify appropriate staff.
  • Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during thepheresis process, including machine alerts, alarms, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
  • Perform calibrations and verify equipment maintenance as outlined in SOPs; respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation; remove and/or replace equipment from service.
  • Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover and alert leadership of any flow issues.
  • Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Record accurate donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in SOPs.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyperimmune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures; promote safety in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • Cross‑train in other areas as needed to meet business needs.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • For centers located in CA:
    • Must be state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or higher.
    • Or be a Current Registered Nurse by the State of California.
