Phlebotomist role at CSL Plasma.

The Opportunity

Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The Role

You will report to the Assistant Center Manager.

Responsibilities

  • In compliance with SOPs, perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor setup, donor monitoring and donor disconnect.
  • In compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines, perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process.
  • Evaluate vein performance to identify problems; make corrections to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety; ensure the donation process is efficient and positive for the donor.
  • Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma; explain screening, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and other pertinent information; answer donor questions timely, accurately and professionally.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist with reactions or notify appropriate staff.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), including machine alerts, volume variances and donor adverse events.
  • Perform calibrations and verify maintenance per SOPs; respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures; create incident documentation; remove and/or replace equipment from service.
  • Monitor donor flow on the floor to ensure continuous turnover; alert Group Leader or Supervisor of flow issues.
  • Collect arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyperimmune programs at the center, if applicable.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms; follow Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies; promote safety; may conduct routine audits.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs; bilingual skills may be required at the organization’s discretion.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Your Skills And Experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • Minimum twelve (12) months of experience in a medical or health care environment preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to complete routine forms or conduct routine oral communications
  • Understand, remember and communicate routine factual information
  • See and speak with customers and observe equipment operation
  • Occasionally stand/walk up to 100% of the time
  • Reach, bend, kneel and have high level of manual dexterity
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures and blood-borne pathogens
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment in specific tasks or areas
  • May require overtime and extended hours to support center operations

Compensation

The expected base pay for this position at hiring is $15.85/hour - $20.60/hour. This wage range reflects CSL’s pay range for the listed location at the time of posting. Final base pay is determined by qualifications, skills, experience, competencies and other relevant factors.
