The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for reviewing production schedules, specifications, and orders as well as developing and implementing process improvements. Will act as a link between manufacturing/production and engineering.

Responsibilities

  • The Manufacturing Engineer supports the development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods, techniques, processes, and tooling on fabricated parts, cast, and machined components, subassemblies, and final products. Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes to ensure cost effective and safe assembly, testing, quality and inspection of products.
  • Perform research, design, and development of manufacturing processes, including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
  • Refine and enhance processes by applying continuous improvement and key Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to areas of production.
  • Identify opportunities for improving products or reducing costs by implementing or modifying fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, product design, materials and parts.
  • Develop and complete manufacturing documentation (FMEA, control plan, process flow, work instructions and inspection plans).
  • Resolve problems and provide guidance to the production teams through the application of technical knowledge, data analytics, research, and acquired expertise. Works with engineering directly on engineering changes and component obsolescence.
  • Participate in design reviews, manufacturing process reviews, supplier quality reviews and audits, first article inspection, failure analysis and other tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial engineering or related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment (defense industry highly preferred).
  • Ability to obtain a DoD secret clearance or already have a clearance.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Able to travel at least 5% of the time.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude as well as knowledge of electro‑mechanical assemblies and schematics.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, product/performance specifications and other systems integration technical data.
  • Hands‑on experience with hand tools, power tools and machines.
  • Knowledgeable with Assembly Manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with improving manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software (Inventor, Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent).

Additional Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in Mechanical Assembly, Machining, Welding and/or Castings.
  • Knowledge of NC machines, cutters and fixturing.
  • Lean / Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification.
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action Investigations.
  • Experience identifying and capturing tribal knowledge into work instructions.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
