Overview

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - Pensacola, Florida (Permanent, Part-Time). Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a PART-TIME Certified Welding Inspector to join our Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Pensacola, FL. This is a part-time, year-round position not tied to a single project or defined period. The ideal candidate will be based in the Greater Pensacola area and may perform construction materials testing (CMT) tasks as needed when welding inspection work is not active.

Intertek’s Building and Construction division offers project-related assurance, testing, inspection and consulting services to support reliability, safety and performance of new developments and existing facilities.

What are we looking for?

The CWI is responsible for applying knowledge of welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure weldments and activities comply with applicable quality and safety criteria.

What you’ll do

  • Ensure compliance with safety and environment guidelines, policies, and regulations
  • Test and inspect structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, and occasional plant inspections
  • Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings
  • Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs
  • Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
  • Record results of tests and welding inspections
  • Able to issue and follow up on non-conformances until closeout
  • Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, test, and/or integration to assure quality of assigned product or component
  • Review all welded products or components and provide input on whether to accept or reject the product
  • Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
  • Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements to management
  • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications using measuring instruments
  • May operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete or other) and provide assessment of data through reporting
  • Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal and team safety

Minimum Requirements & Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant CWI experience required
  • Expected to perform construction materials testing as needed*
  • Ability to read blueprints, understand and interpret tolerances
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work well independently and with others
  • Occasional off-shifts and overtime
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

  • Technical Degree in Welding preferred
  • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Certification & ICC Structural Welding Certification highly preferred
  • Previous construction materials testing experience preferred
