Description

A general electrician is a skilled tradesperson who installs, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, systems, and equipment in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, following blueprints and electrical codes. Tasks include running wires, installing fixtures, troubleshooting malfunctions, and ensuring proper electrical safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Installation: Installing new electrical wiring, fixtures, outlets, switches, circuit breakers, and lighting systems according to blueprints and electrical codes.
• Maintenance: Performing routine inspections and maintenance on existing electrical systems, including cleaning, tightening connections, and replacing worn components.
• Repair: Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults, including troubleshooting issues with wiring, circuits, appliances, and equipment.
• Troubleshooting: Identifying electrical problems using testing tools like voltmeters and ohmeters, and determining the cause of malfunctions.
• Code compliance: Ensuring all electrical work adheres to local and national electrical codes.
• Reading blueprints: Interpreting electrical plans and diagrams to accurately locate and install wiring.
• Safety procedures: Following safety protocols when working with electricity, including using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• Technical knowledge: Understanding of electrical theory, circuit design, and electrical codes.
• Hand tools proficiency: Ability to use a variety of hand tools like wire strippers, crimpers, screwdrivers, and pliers.
• Problem‑solving skills: Ability to diagnose electrical issues and develop solutions.
• Physical ability: Comfortable with working in confined spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy equipment.
• Attention to detail: Ensuring accurate wiring and connections to maintain safety standards.
