Position Summary Akicita Federal is seeking qualified Emergency Room Physicians (HCPs) to provide comprehensive emergency medical services without reliance on ancillary or support personnel at Bemidji Area Service Unit facilities. The HCPs will be fully prepared to deliver high-quality care in life-threatening emergencies and provide complete patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment across a wide range of conditions and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Provide independent emergency services for all presenting patients, including cardiac arrest responses (“Code Blue”).
Perform evaluations and develop treatment plans based on history, physical exams, labs, and imaging.
Diagnose and treat injuries and conditions affecting:
Skin, head, eyes, ears, nose, throat, neck
Psychiatric illness and major trauma
Reproductive, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, lymphatic, musculoskeletal, genitourinary, endocrine, and nervous systems
Execute emergency procedures including but not limited to:
Incision and drainage, suturing, intubation, lumbar puncture, thoracostomy, catheterizations, fracture reduction, and vaginal deliveries
Use of NG/OG tubes, cricothyrotomy, and medication administration via all routes
Interpret EKGs and radiographs; provide instructions via radio during EMS transport.
Complete electronic medical records, patient histories, lab orders, consults, and discharge documentation.
Participate in peer chart reviews, staff meetings, and emergency preparedness drills.
Provide referrals and notify appropriate specialists or the Cass Lake Indian Hospital as required.
Remain on duty during full shift and during emergencies/disasters until proper relief is provided.
Documentation & Records
Utilize the Bemidji Area Service Unit’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all care documentation.
Ensure HIPAA compliance and complete all required forms with electronic signature.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records.
Required Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited institution, licensed in a U.S. state, D.C., or Puerto Rico.
Minimum of two years’ experience as a practicing provider within the past three years.
Board certified.
Completion of a nationally recognized Emergency Medicine training program or:
Two years of postgraduate training in a primary care specialty with board certification in Emergency Medicine.
Current certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or equivalent.
Current DEA registration.
Work Schedule Providers may select their preferred shifts based on availability, offering flexibility to accommodate personal schedules. However, a minimum of
5 shifts per month
is expected. Shifts are typically
10 to 12 hours
in duration and may include
day, evening, or night rotations .
