Introduction Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center (SRSTC) within the Department of Health Services (DHS) is recruiting to fill multiple full-time Food Service Leader positions in Mauston, WI. The hours for these positions are either 4:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and the schedules include working every other weekend. These positions offer a $2,000 sign-on bonus!

SRSTC opened in 2001 and provides care and treatment for several different patient populations. The center houses Wisconsin’s Sexually Violent Persons Program, provides care and treatment for persons found not guilty by reasons of mental disease or mental defect, and provides court‑ordered treatment, testing, and education to patients found not competent to stand trial. SRSTC is a 500‑bed treatment facility and is part of the Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS).

Position Summary As a Food Service Leader, you will be responsible for the following duties:

Cooking, preparing, and distributing food to patients.

Ensuring proper sanitation and safety practices are followed at all times.

Training patient workers and documenting their performance in their treatment programs.

Salary Information The starting rate of pay is $22.18 per hour. A 12-month probationary period is required.

A $2,000 sign‑on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years who stay with SRSTC until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation. Must sign an agreement to remain in the position until completing probation. Employees who do not remain in the position for any reason through the probationary period, must reimburse DHS the sign‑on bonus, unless DHS agrees otherwise.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Corrections Food Service Leader 2 and is in pay schedule and range 03/12.

Job Details All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SRSTC or medical personnel approved by the facility after to their start date.

All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

SRSTC operates under a 24‑hour schedule. These positions will work AM or PM shifts with ½ hour unpaid break. Food Service Leader employees must be willing and available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed including staying for the next shift (up to 16 hours total in one shift) working additional shifts as assigned to maintain facility staffing requirements.

These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling loaded food carts, bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, standing, sitting and working on feet for extended periods of time. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I‑9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E‑Verify employer nor a STEM‑OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications At a minimum, you’ll need the following:

Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed including staying for the next shift (up to 16 hours total in one shift) or working additional shifts as assigned to maintain facility staffing requirements.

Ability to maintain food safety and sanitation standards.

Ability to meet physical requirements listed above.

Experience with food preparation or service.

It’d be great if you also have at least one of the following:

Experience in a leadership role, including training or mentoring others.

Experience with food preparation in a large‑scale operation (e.g., hospital, institution, correctional facility, etc.).
