Overview
The Regional Quality Assurance Manager oversees concrete quality across their region, ensuring compliance with specifications, QA procedures, and material standards. They monitor mix performance, review test data, and make adjustments to maintain consistency and strength. This role involves both field and office work—supporting testing, reviewing submittals, coordinating with operations and sales, and maintaining documentation for governing agencies. The manager also assists with training, specialty testing, and customer education on proper concrete practices. Responsibilities
Responsible for the quality of concrete produced for all areas in the region Ensures batching and raw material control procedures are followed as specified in the QA Program Spend roughly 25-50% of time in the field performing testing and assessing mix designs in their plastic state Evaluate mix strength performance using key performance indicators to make necessary mix adjustments to maintain adequate overdesign Work collaboratively with the QC Field Supervisor to build “cylinder lists” based on priorities and data needs and gather additional strength data for these mixes at plants Review aggregate test data, mill certificates and pozzolan test reports for materials to track consistency and quality Create or review all project submittals for corresponding regions Attend all preconstruction and other project related meetings for projects within regions Request specialty testing (e.g., shrinkage, ASR, thermal resistivity) from 3rd party labs to meet project-specific requirements Communicate with operations, dispatch, transportation and sales to address daily quality concerns Help determine QC coverage priorities and communicate project specific testing needs with QC Field Supervisor Maintain required documentation, certifications and mix data for annual and biannual submittals to ADOT, COP and other governing bodies Assist the Quality Manager in planning and performing quarterly training meetings Investigate potential quality deficiencies through evaluating available data and observing in-place concrete characteristics and environmental factors Aid sales in educating customers in proper concrete placement, finishing and curing techniques Coordinate trial batching in anticipation of high priority or technical concrete placements Participate in the in-place strength investigation process by performing rebound hammer testing and overseeing concrete coring, curing and breaking Complete and update environmental product declaration surveys for each plant in region Review project specifications and general structural notes to recommend appropriate mix designs for required applications Assist the Quality Manager in writing technical letters addressing quality related items Monitor next-day and future orders to help catch potential ordering errors or potential QC issues Answer internal questions regarding mix design characteristics and help dispatch and sales recommend ideal mix designs for customers’ unique applications Facilitate ordering of specialty admixtures for specific project needs Benefits
