Position Summary The Accounting Team Manager leads the daily operations of the accounting department and ensures financial integrity, operational excellence, and compliance across a growing multi‑unit restaurant and food & beverage business. This role is responsible for overseeing general ledger activities, managing month‑end close processes, mentoring accounting staff, and supporting financial transparency for internal stakeholders and leadership. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, people‑focused, and brings a strong background in hospitality or multi‑location restaurant accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
Supervise, train, and develop accounting team staff and accountants across key functions (Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Bank Reconciliations, etc.)
Lead performance management efforts, support team growth, and ensure clear accountability within the accounting function
Accounting Operations
Oversee all day‑to‑day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions across multiple restaurant and bar locations
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring deadlines are met and financials are GAAP‑compliant
Review reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, inventory, payroll, sales tax, intercompany accounts, and POS‑related entries
Maintain and monitor accounting schedules for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and deferred revenue
Compliance, Controls & Audit
Ensure internal controls are documented, monitored, and enforced
Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to support timely year‑end audits, tax filings, and other compliance activities
Stay current on industry regulations, GAAP updates, and best practices for restaurant accounting
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Collaborate with the Controller and Finance team to prepare monthly financial packages, including P&L statements by location, variance analysis, and key operating metrics
Support budgeting and forecasting cycles through historical reporting, accrual trend tracking, and cost center insights
Provide actionable financial insights to operators and senior leadership to improve profitability and operational efficiency
Systems & Process Improvement
Optimize accounting workflows by identifying inefficiencies, redundancies, and opportunities for automation
Partner with IT and operations on system implementations, POS integrations, and accounting software upgrades
Serve as subject matter expert for accounting systems and restaurant‑specific platforms (e.g., Toast, Micros, Restaurant365, Compeat, etc.)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years in a restaurant, hospitality, or food & beverage organization required
2+ years in a leadership or supervisory capacity
Strong understanding of restaurant accounting, including tip allocations, cost of goods sold (COGS), revenue recognition, and vendor payments
Hands‑on experience with POS and accounting platforms used in restaurants (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Restaurant365, Toast, Avero, etc.)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling)
Deep familiarity with GAAP, month‑end close procedures, and internal controls
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to collaborate across departments
Preferred Qualifications
CPA designation or in progress
Multi‑unit or multi‑concept restaurant accounting experience
Experience working in high‑volume, high‑growth environments
Prior involvement in financial system migrations, ERP rollouts, or automation initiatives
