Job Summary The Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for processing, monitoring, and recording incoming payments and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of accounting operations. This role is vital for maintaining the company's financial health by securing revenue and accurately tracking customer accounts.
Key Responsibilities
Process and post customer payments (cash, checks, credit cards, electronic transfers) accurately and in a timely manner.
Generate, prepare, and send out invoices and customer statements.
Perform day‑to‑day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, posting, and recording accounts receivables data.
Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure all payments are accounted for and correctly posted.
Research and resolve discrepancies in customer accounts or billing issues by investigating information from various departments.
Monitor customer accounts for delayed payments and initiate collection efforts, including contacting customers regarding overdue balances.
Maintain updated customer files and organized records of invoices, payments, and correspondence.
Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
Qualifications and Skills
Proven experience as an Accounts Receivable Clerk or in a similar financial role.
Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and fair credit practices.
Proficiency in data entry and managing accounting figures with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Hands‑on experience with spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Excel) and accounting software.
Strong communication and customer service skills for dealing with clients regarding payments.
Organizational and time management skills.
High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is a plus.
