The Opportunity The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer role is an entry-level position located in Overland Park, Kansas, within our Engineering & Development Services group for a qualified engineering professional interested in working on projects in one or more of the many sectors that Black & Veatch supports like power generation, renewables, water treatment, oil and gas, cyber and physical security. Functions in an engineer capacity. Under close supervision, performs routine aspects of engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to prescribed techniques and procedures to complete project assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Function in an engineer capacity under close supervision, applying department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.
Prepare engineering deliverables such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), reports, engineering specifications and technical studies and evaluations.
Conduct routine research and analysis to develop recommendations for instrumentation and equipment selection.
Understand and adhere to scope, schedule, and budget as well as the quality requirements under the Black & Veatch quality program.
Focus on the needs of internal clients (Project Team and Leadership) while gaining a better understanding of external client’s needs and drivers.
Coordinate with the project team by sharing information and design decisions.

Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. Assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
Work Environment Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
