The Associate Professor develops, implements, and evaluates the assigned program of study on an ongoing basis. This position participates in advising students, curriculum development, program revisions, teaching in the classroom and lab, evaluating student achievement, and other matters aligned with the mission and core values of the college.

Responsibilities

Work with program leaders to facilitate appropriate program development, implementation, evaluation, and assessment.

Ensure systematic review of programs to maintain quality, current course content, best practice, and achievement of regulatory standards.

Perform other duties as assigned by the program directors.

Serve on committees as assigned.

Report to the relevant program director.

Professional Governance Responsibilities

Participate in interviewing and make recommendations for hiring faculty.

Arrange for coverage of classes during absences and emergency leaves.

Promote rapport within the department, campus, and community.

Post and keep a minimum of 4-6 office hours per week.

Maintain punctuality in meeting assigned class responsibilities.

Model professional behavior and standards of practice.

Function as a change agent and leader by promoting innovative practices in educational environments.

Participate in professional development opportunities that increase effectiveness in the role.

Makes recommendations regarding equipment, software purchases, and maintenance contracts.

Participate in the collegial mentoring relationship as a mentor or mentee.

Engage in local, state, or national professional organizations appropriate to the faculty role.

Serve community partners as content area experts when needed.

Maintain necessary educational credentials and professional skills.

Solicit feedback and implement suggestions from students and peers when appropriate.

Expand knowledge in discipline and teaching craft on an ongoing basis.

Promote the professional development of peers through recognized professional activities.

Service to the College

Provide service to the institution through participation in academic and campus committee assignments; offer adequate service on at least one department or college-wide committee.

Promote, model, and exhibit College values with colleagues, students, and community stakeholders.

Respond to discussions and requests for department work in a timely manner (e.g., answer emails within 24 hours, complete task assignments).

Mentor new faculty as assigned.

Know and enforce regulatory guidelines (FERPA, Title IX, Article 129) and other pertinent federal regulations.

Assist in maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.

Review and recommend program textbooks and/or materials.

Attend professional development days, departmental events, commencement, and other institutional meetings.

Handle/respond to student concerns/complaints.

Develop and/or participate in student recruitment and retention strategies.

Participate in the formulation and implementation of department initiatives.

Evaluate and revise program offerings on an ongoing basis and develop new curricula as needed.

Participate in strategic planning and monitor institutional effectiveness and accountability processes.

Provide leadership and instructional integrity through classroom observation, mentoring, and evaluation.

Contribute to budget requests and resource allocation.

Attend and participate in faculty meetings.

Participate in accreditation reviews and reports.

Participate in orientation and advisement of students.

Advising

Serve as an advisor for students.

Guide students’ academic and personal development.

Develop remediation plans with students.

Schedule regular meetings with at-risk students.

Assist students in identifying and utilizing resources that may contribute to their success.

Curricula

Implement syllabi for all students.

Submit suggestions for changes in syllabi, courses or programs to the Curriculum Chair and Program Director.

Design and implement new evidence-based curriculum.

Participate in the evaluation of curriculum and related committees.

Ensure curricula reflect institutional philosophy, mission, and current healthcare trends.

Classroom/Lab Instruction

Demonstrate effective classroom/lab/simulation management.

Develop relevant syllabi and lesson plans to reflect college philosophy and objective.

Utilize a variety of teaching methods and modalities.

Provide opportunities for active student involvement through practice and application.

Demonstrate a command of subject matter and consideration for diverse cultural backgrounds.

Model and encourage a collaborative faculty-student relationship.

Provide or utilize resource materials that enhance student learning.

Maintain ongoing weekly evaluation of individual student progress and provide timely feedback.

Evaluation

Participate in peer evaluations when requested.

Review student evaluation summaries of assigned courses and utilize the feedback for planning and implementing future courses.

Participate in program planning in response to student/program evaluation feedback and employer satisfaction surveys.

Workload

Full-time, part-time (Per Diem/Adjunct) faculty have the responsibility of classroom/lab/sim responsibilities as assigned.

Full-time faculty will have a teaching load of no more than 24 academic credits in a given academic year.

Part-time (Per Diem/Adjunct) faculty will have a teaching load of no more than 12 academic credits in a given academic year; the load may be divided between theory and lab/simulation instruction if needed.

Faculty are also required to have 4-6 office hours per week, attend all course/faculty meetings, and participate in graduation/pinning and special events.

Faculty are required to maintain competence in the area of instructional responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education required. Biology major preferred.

Master’s degree with non-Biology major, requires at least 15 graduate/undergraduate semester credit hours in biology/anatomy/physiology (credit hours to be verified through official transcripts received directly from the institution).

Demonstrated effective communication skills, be self-directed, and be able to use independent judgment on work priorities.

Two years of teaching in a college or university preferred.

Pay Range $60,500.00 - $85,000.00
