The Utah Senate Communications Office is seeking a talented and detail‑oriented photographer to document key moments during the 2026 General Session. This position involves capturing Senate proceedings, events and individual legislators, with a focus on producing high‑quality images that authentically represent the work and atmosphere of the Utah Senate.

Responsibilities

Work full‑time during the 2026 General Session under the direction of the deputy chief of staff, capturing professional‑quality images of press conferences, committee meetings, floor sessions and various events.

Utilize photo editing software to produce high‑quality, visually appealing images suitable for public release and media use.

Promptly upload, organize and maintain photo galleries to be used in social media posts, press releases and other communication channels.

Capture sessions and events on short notice, thriving in the fast‑paced and dynamic environment of the legislative session.

Work respectfully and professionally, capturing images discreetly without disrupting legislative activities.

Uphold a strong commitment to nonpar­tisanship, ensuring that all photography positively represents the Utah Senate and its members. The Utah Senate Communications Office serves all senators and is dedicated to maintaining a neutral stance in all aspects of its work.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience as a professional photographer.

Capture high‑quality photographs of legislators and events.

Proficiency in photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom).

Solid understanding of SmugMug or similar photo‑sharing platforms.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a quick turnaround time and tight deadlines.

Consistent demonstration of responsibility and initiative.

Motivated, creative, detail‑oriented, adaptable and dependable.

Team player who also excels as an individual contributor.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in capturing political or governmental events.

Exceptional photography skills with a keen eye for detail.

Bachelor’s degree, currently pursuing a degree from a university/college or relevant work experience.

Supplemental Information Pay : Based on experience.

Start Date : January 6, 2026 and ends March 13, 2026 (the start and end dates are flexible). Hours for this position will typically be about 40 hours per week. Extended work hours may occasionally be required.
