General Description And Classification Standards: This job is responsible for coordinating assigned athletic programs and activities. Duties include developing, planning, organizing, and supervising diversified athletic programs. Oversees and ensures the proficient operation of assigned athletic programs. Duties also include assisting with other department programs as needed. Reports to the Athletics Director.

Job Description Parks & Recreation – Recreation Specialist – Soccer

This role involves coordinating athletic programs and activities, developing and organizing programs, supervising operations, and supporting other department programs as needed. Reports to the Athletics Director.

Supervision Works under minimal supervision; can set own work sequence and pace within process/department limitations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and implement comprehensive recreation programs for all age groups in sports and related recreational programming.

Develop, plan, and organize required athletic teams, leagues, and tournaments for all age groups, working with volunteers and staff.

Prepare budgets to meet program needs; document expenditures.

Order, distribute, and inventory all equipment and uniforms for assigned athletic programs.

Prepare and submit promotional materials (calendars, flyers, brochures, program agendas, memoranda, etc.).

Ensure department facilities and sports equipment are properly used and maintained during the season.

Attend workshops and meetings; interact with community groups and the public in performance of duties.

Recruit and maintain volunteers for athletic programs.

Maintain public relations by handling inquiries and addressing parental/participant concerns.

Prepare various documentation, participant reports, time sheets, and other department reports.

May act as coach, scorekeeper, umpire, referee, official, etc., as needed.

May serve as liaison for City of Atlanta with local and national recreation associations (e.g., Georgia Recreation and Park Association).

Decision Making Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks; may interpret policies and recommend exceptions; may make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within guidelines.

Leadership Provided Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.

Knowledge of City Parks/Recreation and Cultural Affairs operations and related laws, policies, and regulations.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to produce concise reports.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Ability to develop and administer policies, procedures, plans, and activities; monitor staff performance.

Ability to communicate effectively with management, staff, and the public; use independent judgment and discretion in managing subordinates and emergencies.

Ability to read, understand, and interpret personnel and financial reports.

Minimum Qualifications – Education And Experience

Associate’s degree in recreation, physical education, or related field (equivalent professional experience may be considered on an exception basis).

1 year of recreational experience.

Preferred Qualifications – Education And Experience

Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or related field plus 3-4 years of related experience, including supervisory/managerial experience.

Licensures and Certifications

Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
