Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reports, compliance with accounting standards, and effective internal controls. This position involves managing the accounting department, the monthly close, preparing financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, payroll, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management.
The company has two offices - one in the Galleria and one in the Energy Corridor. The Controller will spend some time in both offices.

The position is open due to a retirement.
Overview of the position
Leads the accounting function
Oversees the financial reporting close process
Manages the preparation of timely and accurate monthly financial statements
Leads the annual budgeting process
Oversees payroll, which is handled in house
Oversees billing and accounts receivable
Manages the preparation of monthly and quarterly variance analysis and account reconciliations
Insurance risk management
Identifies and resolves issues requiring special accounting treatment
Identifies opportunities for process improvement, develops and implements new processes
Liaison with external auditors and tax professionals
Ensures that internal controls over accounting and financial reporting are adequate and effective
Maintains open and effective communications with other departments
Ensures excellent communications with key clients and vendors
Together with the CFO, maintains good working relationships with bankers
Maintains a commercial mindset - keeps an eye on cost and profitability
Active participant in accounting system selection and conversion
Candidate profile
CPA required
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting
Stable employment history required (average job tenure of more than two years per employer)
Previous experience leading the monthly close is required
Previous management experience is required
Some experience in public accounting is preferred
Broad knowledge of US GAAP
Able to lead and motivate team members, and a good teammate with other department heads
Ability to multi-task and to meet deadlines
Comfortable with an in-office work location
Some experience with QuickBooks is preferred
