The Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist will work closely with the Director of Knowledge Solutions, other KM team members, and stakeholders to organize, maintain, and optimize the firm's knowledge resources while ensuring efficient access and utilization across the firm. The KM Specialist will also be responsible for planning and delivering training, including on Generative AI tools as well as other emerging technologies; developing and executing communications strategies; and providing comprehensive support for legal KM solutions.
Responsibilities
Work with the Director of Knowledge Solutions and other KM team members to develop, deploy, and manage a portfolio of legal knowledge management solutions and tools.
Ensure the timely execution and delivery of KM projects by maintaining systems for legal forms and precedent libraries, implementing data management systems, collecting valuable knowledge assets, and championing best practices for legal KM.
In collaboration with practice group stakeholders, track and categorize new KM submissions and ensure the accuracy and consistency of information with established practices.
Monitor the lifecycle of KM content and ensure outdated or obsolete materials are archived or updated as needed with input from practice group stakeholders.
Be aware of taxonomies used across other areas of the firm to ensure the accuracy and consistency of KM categorizations with other resources.
Collaborate with the Research Services Department to identify opportunities to provide and leverage external content alongside internal content in response to KM queries.
Plan, develop, and deliver training programs and materials for attorneys and staff on KM tools, intranet resources, and best practices.
Serve as a resource to all firm personnel for training and assistance with accessing and using KM tools.
Complete in‑depth analysis of data collected from practice groups and assist in the development of internal and client‑facing data projects.
Support the day‑to‑day operations of the firm's Legal KM tools, including content maintenance for intranet sites, databases, and KM resources.
Provide mentoring, training, and advisory guidance to content managers and contributors.
Keep project stakeholders informed of progress on an ongoing basis and provide support to the business for tasks to which they are assigned.
For assigned projects, organize or participate in project after‑action reviews, analyze the findings, and make recommendations to the KM leadership team regarding opportunities for process improvement.
Work with the Director of Knowledge Solutions to ensure that Legal KM projects are following best practice and utilizing established project standards, procedures, and quality objectives.
Qualifications
Proficiency in KM tools, particularly document management systems, with a very strong preference for iManage.
Familiarity with collaboration and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Asana).
Ability to collaborate with practice group stakeholders to keep intranet pages up to date.
Aptitude and interest in communications and legal technologies.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to produce quality communications.
Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to problem‑solving and innovation.
Knowledge of the typical workflows and needs of attorneys.
Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments in a fast‑paced environment.
Strong organization and time‑management skills.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion.
Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment and able to handle multiple projects at once.
Ability to influence without having direct management responsibility.
Commitment to professional development and continuous learning, and passion for KM, technology, innovation, and creative problem solving.
Ability to establish credibility with the firm’s lawyers and clients as a valuable resource and internal consultant.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in library science, information management, business administration, communications, or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience in knowledge management and curation in a complex environment.
Experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or other legal services provider environment.
Knowledge management coursework or certification strongly desired.
Experience planning and delivering training preferred.
Prior experience managing projects required.
