Executive Underwriter, Miscellaneous Professional Liability
Pay range: $89,000 – $247,000 per year.
Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of brokers, agents, and clients, leveraging market presence to develop and underwrite profitable business.
Build relationships with senior market‑leading brokers and key agents.
Play a leading role in business and marketing planning, using advanced data‑driven portfolio insights.
Serve as a key driver for product development and refinement based on data insights, research, and client interaction.
Participate in high‑profile cross‑department projects designed to drive underwriting and process excellence.
Model and facilitate effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders, sharing knowledge based on technical expertise.
Act as an exemplary mentor, coach, and trainer for other underwriters and internal partners.
Handle escalation for particularly tricky or novel underwriting decisions.
Maintain strong knowledge of key legal cases, legislation, and regulations impacting underwriting expertise.
Cover manager responsibilities when needed, though no formal people management duties.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent, typically required.
Minimum 7 years of progressive underwriting experience, 10 years or more preferred.
CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred.
Proven analytic ability to evaluate underwriting risks within scope of responsibility.
Strong communication skills, able to convey complex analyses and information in clear written and oral directives.
Effective interpersonal skills for dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues and ability to define and implement necessary processes and workflows.
Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business.
