At F5 , we are building adistributed cloud Services (XC) platform to support large-scale, high-performance, and highly available services across multi-cloud environments. TheControlPlane Team at F5 is seeking an experiencedSenior Principal Engineer with deep technical knowledge ofBGP routing ,networking fundamentals , anddistributed systems . You will work on the development and lifecycle of amulti-cloud distributed platform , primarily withinAWS environments, leveragingKubernetes (K8s) for orchestration.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise inBGP ,iBGP ,networking fundamentals , anddistributed systems , particularly inAWS environments withKubernetes orchestration . You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable and resilientcontroland data plane solutions while bringing leadership experience and technical acumen to influence the future direction of our product.Key Responsibilities
- Leadcontrolpath development for theXC product line , focusing onscalability andhigh availability in distributed cloud environments.
- Design and implementscalable ,high-performance solutions forcontrolplane.
- Technically lead major system components indistributed systems , from design to implementation.
- Create and maintain functional specifications and design documents to clearly communicate design decisions and solutions.
- Proactively identify and resolve keytechnical challenges related toperformance ,security , andscalability .
- Continuously improve theperformance andreliability of the platform, ensuring it meetsoperational demands .
- Investigate and propose solutions tosecurity vulnerabilities within the platform, includingthird-party integrations .
- Mentorjunior engineers and serve as a source oftechnical expertise across the team.
- Communicate effectively withinternal stakeholders , presenting complextechnical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications
- 14+ years of software engineering experience, with10+ years in designing and implementing large-scaledistributed systems .
- Prior experience incloud technologies , particularlyAWS ,Kubernetes (K8s) , anddistributed ,scalable systems and theirdeployment models , with a focus onscalability ,performance , andsecurity .
- Deep expertise inBGP andIPSec routing , as well asnetworking fundamentals (TCP ,UDP ,L4-L7 ,HTTP ,BGP ,IPSec ).
- Experience withcloud networking platforms andcommercial BGP routing solutions .
- Strong coding proficiency inC++/Golang , with a proven track record of leading complex software development efforts.
- Hands-on experience withDocker ,K8s , andmicroservices architecture in cloud environments.
- Strongarchitectural skills in designinghighly available ,real-time systems in distributed environments.
- Excellentcommunication ,collaboration , andleadership skills , with the ability to lead and mentor teams effectively.
Nice to have:
- Experience withRoute Reflectors andBGP Confederations for managing complexBGP deployments in large-scale environments.
- Understanding ofroute dampening ,BGP path attributes , andBGP synchronization techniques .
- Ability to solvecomplex engineering problems , making decisions that balancetrade-offs and ensureoptimal customer outcomes .

The annual base pay for this position is: $207,279.00 - $310,919.00F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business.
