About this Role

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategies of the Kauffman Foundation. As a member of the CEO’s cabinet, the CFO is entrusted with the oversight of financial policies and strategic financial planning, aligning them with the Foundation’s mission. The role includes financial administration, budgeting, and risk management to ensure the Foundation’s fiscal health and growth. As a strategic partner, the CFO will work closely with the CEO and executive team on strategic issues and contribute to the Foundation’s long-term planning. The position requires collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees and Audit Committee, to ensure financial stewardship and operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all finance-related activities, including preparation of financial reports and audits.
  • Lead the Enterprise Risk Management process and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Provide oversight of the Foundation’s grant management processes and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field and CPA certification.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB, and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead finance teams and work collaboratively across departments.
  • Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills.
