Location: Administration Center Support theeducationalmission by enhancing and safeguarding the health of the school community. This role provides health services support and promotes health education under the supervision of the School Nurse. It requires a high level of responsibility,independence, and collaboration with the School Nurse, staff, and administration. Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent. Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant or greater. Be physically capable of assisting students with special health needs requiring positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, or transporting within the school environment, including the bus. Be able to read and write. Have the ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions. Demonstrate an interest in youth and their educational welfare. Have good customer service skills. Appearance and manner such as to provide a model for students. Experience in working with children in a group setting. Maintain a pleasant personality; be well groomed, prompt, dependable, reliable and flexible. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with administrators, district staff, teachers, students and general public, dealing with all individuals courteously and tactfully. Ability to cooperate with teachers and willingness to take directions from nursing staff. Ability and desire to assist teachers in providing a safe environment for the handicapped child to attain his/her maximum potential. C urrent CPR and BLS certifications required Terms of Employment:
Nine (9) Months - to coincide with student attendance. Subject to additional days authorized by Administration. The starting and ending times shall be determined by the building principal.
Compensation:
Aide Salary Schedule (Step 15 serves as Step 1 for placement for this position.)
Reports to:
Executive Director of Academic Services and Registered Nurse/works under the direction of Registered Nurse.
Evaluation:
Annually by Building Principal with input from the supervising Registered Nurse

Responsibilities:
Administer medication to student(s) according to district policy and document care given on individual student health records. There must be written permission to give all medications. Assist students in feeding, bathrooming and transferring, when applicable. Escort for student(s); assist in moving student(s) safely from one area to another. Provide care to identified student(s) as delegated by the RN and as described in the Individualized Health Care Plan developed by the supervising RN, following appropriate training. This includes but is not limited to: catheterization, tracheotomy suctioning, oral suctioning, tube feedings, vital signs, positioning, student specific emergency medications, medication by subcutaneous injection if the nurse has calculated the dose. Maintain special equipment required by student(s). Monitor the quantity of special supplies needed; request more as needed. Responsible for administering basic first aid in the absence of the nurse. Take and record certain vital statistics of students for the school nurse such as height, weight and temperature. Record all reports of disease/infection for the nurse to follow up. (ex: lice, chickenpox, strep, pinkeye, etc.) Notify parents of all head, eye or tooth/mouth injuries, also possible fractures. Do not leave a seriously ill child unattended for any length of time. Notify nurse of any accident/injury that should be evaluated by nurse, also any cases of suspected child abuse. Fill out accident reports as necessary. Do not represent yourself as a "nurse" on the phone or to parents/children. Use the title "health aide". Participate in in-service training programs. Know and observe all regulations and policies in the assigned school. Assist the nurse with paper work as requested. Keep the principal/nurse informed of any problem.
