Lead Software Engineer, Front End (Tech Lead)
Capital One is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive the front end strategy, build industry‑leading cloud‑native solutions, and mentor a team of high‑performing developers. This role will partner with product managers, cloud architects, and data teams to deliver digital experiences that empower millions of Americans.
Responsibilities
Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and manage a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices, full‑stack systems, and front‑end delivery.
Perform software development on front‑end applications using test‑driven development patterns, modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Node), and cloud‑native services.
Stay current on technology trends, experiment with new tools, and participate in internal and external technology communities; mentor other team members.
Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud‑based solutions that drive powerful user experiences.
Utilize languages such as JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go; work with open‑source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and AWS services.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
At least 4 years of experience in software engineering; internship experience does not apply.
At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
7+ years of experience in front‑end frameworks (React, Angular, Node), TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go.
3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
4+ years of experience in open source frameworks.
1+ year of people management experience.
2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
Salary McLean, VA: $193,400 – $220,700 for Lead Software Engineer. Candidates hired in other locations will receive a pay range associated with that location.
