Job Overview
Join the Addiction & Recovery Counselor I or II at Cascadia Health. The role focuses on providing substance use disorder (SUD) services to clients in a correctional setting, including assessment, individualized therapy using evidence‑based practices, and collaboration with the treatment team.
Location & Schedule The position is located at The Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland, OR. Schedule options: Monday–Thursday 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m. or Tuesday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
Essential Duties
Facilitate individual counseling and evidence‑based group therapy using CBT and Motivational Interviewing.
Provide case management and collaborate with treatment team members and DOC counselors to support treatment plans.
Offer milieu support by monitoring problematic behavior and deescalate as necessary.
Develop treatment plans; identify risk factors for relapse and recidivism.
Complete Substance Abuse and ASAM LOC assessments.
Adhere to compliance, required laws, and complete annual required trainings (e.g., mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA).
Participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions, and departmental and agency meetings.
Document and maintain clinical records in the Electronic Health Record System (EHR) to ensure compliance with agency policy and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be a CADC-Registrant for Counselor I or a CADC I/II for Counselor II.
Preferred: clinician already holds a CADC certification.
Certification, associate degree, or specific education focused on substance abuse treatment is preferred.
Six months to a year of experience providing SUD treatment or practicum experience is required.
Familiar with de‑escalation techniques.
Knowledge of culturally specific services.
Knowledge of Trauma‑Informed Care.
Understanding of the Recovery Model and Motivational Interviewing.
Knowledge of evidence‑based practices and strength‑based philosophies.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Operate computer programs and systems at a level needed to perform essential duties.
Able to commute to other Cascadia sites and locations as needed.
Working Conditions
Environmental: Work is performed in a minimum‑security, male prison.
Operating Hours: 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., four days a week (four‑ten’s).
Mental: Meal periods and breaks may be interrupted; remaining alert to detect volatile situations is critical.
Physical Demands: The role involves stationary documentation, group and individual counseling, and constant verbal communication; requires awareness of surroundings, ability to move between rooms, and occasional stooping for emergency drills.
