Adult Protective Services Case Manager 3 – (Investigator Lead)

Lyons, Toombs County, Georgia (covers 18 surrounding counties)

Overview The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Aging Services (DAS) – Adult Protective Services (APS) is seeking a Lead Worker to conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation reports for vulnerable adults. The investigator will determine appropriate interventions, coordinate legal processes for guardianship when necessary, and provide follow‑up and consultation to stabilize cases.
Responsibilities
Conduct initial investigations of APS reports and determine appropriate interventions within a standard of promptness.
Evaluate risk to clients and take appropriate action to ensure safety.
Provide follow‑up, consultation, and resources to stabilize situations and prevent recurrence of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Initiate legal processes for guardianship when required for incapacitated adults.
Maintain required documentation and complete reports within standards of promptness.
Maintain knowledge of current policies, laws, trends, and developments in the field by attending training sessions and meetings.
Perform other professional responsibilities as assigned.
Perform administrative duties for the Regional Supervisor(s) and assist staff with decision‑making on policy questions.
Conduct a minimum of three peer reviews each quarter for quality assurance and provide input into training needs.
Monitor workers’ adherence to established office policies and practices.
Provide on‑the‑job training and serve as a mentor to fellow workers.
Plan and organize the unit’s work to meet organizational objectives, delegate and prioritize work, and approve leave for other workers in consultation with the District Manager.
Make presentations to community groups to raise public awareness and support.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of related experience.
OR two (2) years of experience at a lower level APS Case Manager 2 (SSP171) or an equivalent position.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications
2 years’ experience as an APS Investigator.
Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services program.
Experience working with specific client populations such as family violence, crisis intervention, substance abuse, services to the elderly or disabled.
Valid driver’s license and consistent access to a vehicle for required work‑related activities.
