Position Overview
Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice – Engineering: Machine Shop at Maine Maritime Academy. The role focuses on machine tool operations for marine and power engineering. Faculty will teach, supervise, advise, and contribute to curriculum, scholarship, and service.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses in machine shop operations, laboratory skills, and marine/power engineering.
Prepare and update course materials, assessments, and laboratory curricula.
Advise students on academic and career matters (no advising required for this temporary appointment).
Participate in department, faculty, and academy committees and service obligations.
Engage in scholarship and professional development, maintaining current industry knowledge.
Maintain required licenses and certifications (TWIC/USCG/STCW/Stationary/Professional).
Support academy training curriculum and contribute to curriculum development.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology (or equivalent). U.S. Coast Guard license with STCW endorsements preferred.
Minimum 5 years industrial experience in machine tool operations or related field.
Professional experience applying engineering principles to design and fabricate components or systems.
Professional membership and license(s) as applicable.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to supervise undergraduates and manage time to deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
Academic instructional experience.
Experience in marine industry or equivalent military or industrial experience.
Salary $67,250 – $71,346 per year, based on skills and experience.
