Summary This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by helping in the diagnosis and treatment of certain diseases or other metabolic processes utilizing nuclear medicine and Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography.

Job Description Job Duties

Ensure that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. Take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome.

Interviews the patient to obtain a history appropriate to the exam ordered and explain the nuclear medicine exam to the patient and answer any questions they might have.

Establishes intravenous access, using sterile technique, to inject radiopharmaceuticals.

Positions and immobilizes patient on scanning table using supportive devices to obtain precise patient position.

Enters technical data into imaging/processing computers and adjust scan parameters for mitigating circumstances that may be presented.

Follows prescribed safety standards for operating imaging equipment.

Evaluates digital images and computer-generated information for technical quality and prepares the data for radiologist review on the PAC's system in accordance with set guidelines.

Performs and documents quality assurance procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Follows set guidelines and maintains required documentation for the safe handling and dispensing of radioactive materials and demonstrates appropriate infection control precautions.

Maintains overall cleanliness of the department and all associated equipment in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.

Follows established nuclear medicine protocols and procedures.

Performs and documents surveys and wipe tests of incoming and outgoing radioactive shipments in accordance with departmental policies.

Troubleshoots basic problems that may occur with imaging and processing equipment.

Operates a nuclear medicine information system that is used to maintain records for regulatory compliance.

Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to operate Molecular Imaging equipment. Competent with Computed Tomography scanning, department information system and Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS).

Professional Experience

Preferred: 1-2 years Nuclear Medicine experience in a full range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures including PET/CT and/or SPECT/CT.

Education

Education sufficient to obtain required licensure/certification.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

Required: Currently Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine.

Iowa Department of Public Health Iowa Permit to Practice Nuclear Medicine.

Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training prior to start or transfer date.
