Position Summary
The Phlebotomist collects blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. The role involves venipuncture, skin puncture, and specimen labeling, ensuring accurate patient identification and specimen integrity. The technician acts as a liaison between the physician and Rush Medical Laboratories, performing routine, timed, and STAT collections. Shift
8 hour shift (7:00 AM – 6:00 PM). Full time 0.9–1 FTE. Shift 1. Compensation
Pay range $16.75 – $21.07 per hour. Physical Demands
Work throughout patient care areas and laboratories. Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and body fluids. Bending, standing, walking for majority of day. Responsibilities
Verify patient identification and specimen labeling according to SOP. Collect specimens using proper phlebotomy technique, including timed collections within scheduled time. Maintain a neat, organized work area, replenish supplies, and document specimen accessioning. Assist in training new staff and complete training checklists within deadlines. Perform LIS order entry accurately and collaborate with ordering clinicians. Required Qualifications
High school graduate. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
National Phlebotomy Association or equivalent certification. Two years of phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting. Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
