Working in the Financial Applications Unit (FAU) within DSHS’s Finance, Technology, & Analytics Administration (FTAA) is seeking an IT Application Developer – Senior/Specialist who will provide support for centralized services in areas such as collections, account receivables, cash receipting and processing, budget reporting, grants management, tax reporting, garnishments, and other mission‑critical financial applications.

This role has a statewide scope and follows a hybrid telework schedule within Washington State. As a senior technical expert, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex financial applications that directly support the safe and efficient delivery of services to vulnerable populations across Washington.

Some Of What You Will Do

Lead technical solution efforts for financial applications, including design, development, testing, implementation, and support.

Architect scalable, high‑impact solutions that align technology strategies with business needs.

Analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex application and integration issues.

Ensure compliance with IT policies, security standards, and quality benchmarks throughout the application lifecycle.

Serve as a lead for technology solution implementation and application integration efforts.

Collaborate with customers, database administrators, network engineers, business analysts, and security analysts to build and deliver high‑quality, secure solutions.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and promote best practices across the team.

Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to other developers, helping shape the architecture and future direction of enterprise financial systems.

Who Should Apply IT professionals with 12+ years of professional experience in computer application development and maintenance. Your knowledge and experience base includes analyzing, designing, implementing, or programming medium to large scale software application using modern technology platforms and languages such as Microsoft.NET Framework with ASP.Net, C#, MVC, WinForms, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and MS SQL, SSRS, SSIS or other ETL processes. Additional college degrees may substitute year for year of the described work experience. I.E., an associate degree in relevant IT fields with 10 years of described experience or a bachelor’s degree in relevant IT fields with 8 years of described experience will also be considered.

As a substitution, eligible professionals are those with a computer science master’s degree and 6 years of professional experience in computer application development and maintenance consisting of:

Analyzing, designing, implementing, or programming medium to large scale software application using modern technology platforms and languages.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Working across expansive, multiple areas of software, hardware, networking and integration of diverse technology areas for architecting front‑end, back‑end, data analytic using a variety of appropriate technologies; experience with Agile, SCRUMS, Iterative or Waterfall development/project methodologies.

Adjust priorities in rapidly changing environments, work well under pressure and provide technical leadership in multiple projects; experience with Team Foundation Server (TFS) and Azure DevOps.

Proficient in all aspects of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations.
