Associate Manager, Manufacturing Engineer – Space Mechanisms Location:

Wilmington, MA

This role directs the Manufacturing Engineering department for L3Harris’s Space Superiority and Imaging site, which designs and produces cutting‑edge optical telescopes for small satellites in commercial, military, and NASA markets. The position supports the scaling and transformation of the organization by leading a growing team of Manufacturing Engineers to meet internal and external customer needs on development and production programs.

Key Responsibilities

Manage, grow, and transform a team of manufacturing engineers, adapting the structure to best meet the needs of customers and the business.

Establish and drive continuous improvement to team processes using the e3 operating system, making improvements of processes, systems, and products to enhance performance.

Communicate within and outside the organization to explain and influence changes to policies, procedures, and systems.

Lead, direct, and review the work of direct reports, working with them to solve problems on individual programs and conduct extensive investigations to understand root cause of problems.

Work with program management, engineering, and operations in both new product introduction and production environments to meet production/program goals.

Utilize data and analytics to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and make data‑driven decisions to improve manufacturing operations.

Essential Functions

Develop the manufacturing engineering team’s capabilities; grow technical, project management, facilitation, and leadership skills.

Drive a culture of data‑based actions; create actionable information to drive improvement using existing data and developing new metrics.

Coordinate manufacturing engineering tasks and resources across all programs.

Maintain skills matrix and training plan; identify staffing needs and forecast headcount.

Support product development experts in transferring designs and processes to manufacturing, including DFMAT and DFM introductions.

Drive a safety‑first and quality‑first culture on the manufacturing engineering team.

Spend ½ time directly supporting program activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years prior relevant experience, or a graduate degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience. Alternatively, 10 years of related experience may substitute for a degree.

Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills

Knowledge of Lean and 6 Sigma tools (5S, value‑stream mapping, Kaizen, process control, etc.) with Six Sigma Lean Green Belt or higher certification preferred.

Proven success in driving improvements in cost, quality, and efficiency in manufacturing environments.

Strong communication, organizational, time‑management, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.

Ability to support multiple programs simultaneously and effectively multi‑task.

Experience with DFM, DFA, optical systems, and NPI.

Salary Range (Massachusetts):

$94,000 – $175,000. Final offer will vary based on experience and geographic location.
