Role Description Data Modeler – Lead II
UST is looking for a talented, experienced, and creative Data Modeler. The Data Modeler will be working with one of the leading wholesale retailers in the US. You will be instrumental in designing and implementing data models that support retail operations, customer analytics, and supply chain optimization.
The Opportunity
Retail Data Modeling: Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for retail systems including POS, inventory, CRM, and e‑commerce platforms.
Reverse Engineering: Analyze and reverse engineer existing table structures from legacy systems to understand data relationships and dependencies.
Data Migration Mapping: Build comprehensive mapping documents to support one‑time data loads from legacy systems into modern data platforms.
SQL Development: Write and optimize complex SQL queries for data profiling, transformation, validation, and reporting. Strong SQL skills are a critical requirement for this role.
Customer & Product Analytics: Develop models that support customer segmentation, product performance tracking, and personalized marketing.
Collaboration: Work with data engineers, business analysts, and merchandising teams to translate retail business needs into scalable data solutions.
What You Need
Mandatory Skills: Data Modeling, Erwin, Snowflake, Python, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Experience with cloud platform (Azure, GCP)
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
7+ years of experience in data modeling, preferably in the retail industry.
Expert‑level SQL query development and optimization experience.
Proficiency in Python and data modeling tools like Erwin or ER/Studio.
Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, and GCP) and retail data solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Synapse).
Strong understanding of OLTP and OLAP systems in a retail context.
Familiarity with retail KPIs such as sell‑through rate, inventory turnover, and customer lifetime value.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with retail analytics platforms (e.g., SAS Retail, Oracle Retail, SAP CAR).
Knowledge of retail compliance standards (e.g., PCI DSS).
Certification in cloud data services or retail analytics tools.
Exposure to AI/ML use cases in retail such as demand forecasting and recommendation engines.
Compensation Range Washington – $76,500–$112,500 per year.
Benefits Full‑time regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, 6 days of paid sick leave, 10 paid holidays, and eligibility for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. Benefits include 401(k) with employer matching, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a range of company‑paid life and disability coverages.
