Key Responsibilities
Develop, qualify, and monitor suppliers to ensure they meet quality and delivery requirements.
Plan, perform, and document supplier audits, with a focus on machining, welding, fabrication, and special processes.
Review and approve supplier quality documentation, including material certifications, welding procedures, and inspection reports.
Collaborate with suppliers to resolve nonconformances, implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), and drive continuous improvement.
Work closely with Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing teams to establish quality requirements for externally supplied parts and services.
Conduct root cause analysis and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented by suppliers.
Support the qualification of new suppliers and materials, including first article inspections and capability studies.
Monitor supplier performance metrics and generate reports for management review.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to suppliers on machining tolerances, welding codes, and pressure vessel fabrication requirements.
Travel
This position requires occasional travel—approximately 35% of the time—to visit supplier sites for auditing purposes; travel may involve short-distance trips by vehicle or air travel to remote locations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing or quality engineering, preferably in pressure vessels, or rotating equipment industries.
Strong hands‑on knowledge of
machining, welding, and fabrication processes .
Experience with supplier quality management, audits, and performance evaluation.
Strong problem‑solving skills with practical application of root cause analysis and corrective action tools (e.g., 5‑Why, Fishbone, 8D).
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence suppliers.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of
ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems .
Familiarity with
ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels)
requirements.
Experience in non‑destructive testing (NDT), machining, fabrication and related quality processes.
Certified Auditor (ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or equivalent) is a plus.
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
