Overview Tesla's Cell Cathode Engineering group seeks a highly motivated Operations Supervisor to address a critical challenge in the world’s energy transition—battery cathode materials. This role involves developing and scaling novel, high‑energy, low‑cost cathode materials and pioneering first‑of‑a‑kind processes that shorten the path from mine to battery cell. Success will unlock a diversified green energy ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Manage, mentor, and lead a team of chemical operators and maintenance technicians.
Perform takt time assessments, implement industrial hygiene and ergonomic improvements, and lead resource planning for future processes while ensuring reliable data collection and supporting systems including Ignition, SQL, JMP.
Lead root cause investigations for quality issues or equipment failures and track corrective actions.
Oversee pilot operations logistics such as maintaining material inventory, supporting equipment shipments or installations, and overseeing dangerous goods shipments.
Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams as they execute experiments and commission new equipment.
Develop operating procedures, safety protocols, and maintenance plans for pilot scale chemical processing equipment and lead the implementation of process improvement projects.
Participate in HAZOP reviews and collaborate with EHS and process teams to identify risks and implement safety improvement.
Qualifications
1+ year of demonstrated experience managing teams of people in a manufacturing production environment.
3+ years of experience in chemical production environments with support of production operators and maintenance teams in root cause analysis and troubleshooting of processes.
Degree in Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience.
Evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve technical problems.
Essential Physical Demands
Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day.
Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain.
Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs.
Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach.
Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day.
Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures.
Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing.
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: PAPR, safety glasses, safety shoes, bump caps, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
