POSITION TITLE:
English Learner Program Paraprofessional
JOB TYPE:
Hourly, Part Time, up to 29 hours per week
CAMPUS:
Mainland (4th - 5th)
REPORTS TO:
School Site Curriculum Coordinator & Director
Job Overview Working under the direction of a Curriculum Coordinator and the Schoolwide English Learner Program Coordinator, the English Learner (EL) Program Paraprofessional will help to implement the District English Learner Master Plan by maintaining student records, administering annual assessments, communicating with families, monitoring student progress, providing student support, and facilitating communications between families of English Learners. The English Learner Program Paraprofessional understands and works effectively with students from different cultures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides instructional assistance to individuals or small groups of English Language Learner students in a classroom, pull-out or other learning environment
Assists teachers with implementing lesson plans by providing English-to-Spanish translation that supports learning experiences for students
Assists with planning and setting up learning activities
Confers with teachers and the administrative team concerning student needs and informs about any special problems or information concerning students
Assists teachers and resource staff to develop and evaluate individual and group educational goals and objectives
Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned
Assure students understanding of content/ material being taught; answer student questions; assist students in reviewing homework/class assignments and test results
Work with district ELPAC team to administer annual ELPAC testing
Build home-school relationships
Communicate with parents to discuss students’ academic progress
Must observe student confidentiality
Must be discrete in responding to student behaviors and educational needs whenever possible
Provides appropriate role modeling, emotional support, patience, and a friendly and engaging attitude
Communicates with students in English and a designated second language to facilitate instructional processes
Staff Support Ability to
Assist teachers with the implementation of instructional goals and activities, assessing the needs of individual students and developing programs to meet those needs
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Read, write, speak and translate English and a designated second language
Assist with the instructional and related activities of the assigned learning environment
Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff and the public
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
Skills used to maintain positive relationships with students and adults
English language acquisition and development
Be aware of and sensitive to needs of a diverse population
Read, write and speak English effectively
Accurately translate documents and conferences into the targeted language
Relate to high school students and families from diverse backgrounds
Perform tasks with patience, tact and good judgment within established guidelines
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent education required.
48 Semester units/60 quarter units OR pass a pre-employment test of 70% or better.
2 years of experience in a school setting.
Read, write and speak Spanish and English fluently.
Preferably, enrolled in an accredited college. Possess or on track for a Bachelor's Degree.
Posses strong written and oral communication skills.
Possess a work ethic and personal belief system that aligns with the mission and vision of Vaughn Next Century Learning Center.
Team player with a demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain effective and cooperative professional relationships.
Strong organizational skills; a self-starter who can prioritize and multi-task.
Excellent verbal/written communication, organization, and time management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office365 applications, Microsoft Word, Excel and online data input software.
Must pass a criminal background check (Live scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within the recent 6 weeks.
Vaughn Next Century Learning Center voted to adopt a vaccination requirement on a school-wide basis; therefore all new staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
Compensation And Benefits
$19.00 - $23.00/hr (Non-Bachelor’s Degree Track); $26.00 - $30.00/hr (Bachelor’s Degree track); $31.00 - $36.00 (Credential/Master’s Degree Track)
