Position Summary At CVS, we’re dedicated to creating a unique and seamless experience for our developers across CVS Digital. We are seeking a strong hands‑on senior software engineer who can transform developer’s experiences into innovative solutions, making the journey for our developers at CVS both productive and enjoyable.

As a Senior Software Engineer for Developer Experience Tooling and Automation, you will lead efforts to build shared internal libraries, tools, and processes that enable teams across CVS Health to efficiently build, test, preview, deploy, and operate systems with reduced lead time and complexity. You will collaborate with various teams across CVS to influence the technical direction of front‑end web development and enhance the way we build applications that serve millions of customers across Retail, Pharmacy, Health Solutions, and Aetna.

This is a newly established team at CVS, and we need a strong technical engineer who can work with a high level of autonomy, advocate for best practices, and collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, architects, and leadership to build platforms that developers love to use. This is a unique opportunity to help build a team from the ground up.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you will build APIs, CLI tools, out‑of‑the‑box automation tools using CVS Health approved tools, LLMs and Machine Learning algorithms, test, preview, deploy.

What We Expect of You

Advocate for engineering best practices, including test coverage, clean code, and security

Be data‑driven and articulate the value our platform provides to all engineering teams at CVS Health

Build, optimize, fine‑tune Generative AI/LLM models to transform experience into solutions and deploy them

Work closely with data scientists, ML engineers, software developers, and business stakeholders to translate AI research into practical, deployable solutions that address business needs and enhance decision‑making processes

Lead the prototyping and experimentation with new generative models, optimizing them for specific use cases (e.g., content generation, personalization, simulation) and scaling prototypes into production‑grade applications

Emphasize the importance of mentorship and training to upskill both yourself and junior engineers, fostering a strong and supportive engineering team

Act as a technical leader across all parts of the CVS Health Infrastructure engineering team

Develop clear, concise, and clean code in any language (mostly in Python) that fits the needs of our customers and services offered

Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to standardize how we can enhance the experience

Stay aligned with the latest developments in cloud‑native and ML ops/engineering and to experiment with and learn new technologies – NumPy, data science packages like sci‑kit, microservices architecture

Actively participate in the design and architecture process for new services across teams

Required Qualifications

5+ years of overall experience in Python

Experience in setting up and optimizing efficient data stores (RDBMS/NoSQL) for production

3+ years of overall backend development experience on enterprise‑class applications

3+ years partnering with architecture, product, and program management teams to influence product development decisions

3+ years of experience working on projects using mature CI/CD practices, source control such as Git, and automated testing

2+ years of experience working with large public cloud technologies (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure)

Experience with Prompt engineering: Ability to build and craft prompts that evoke desired responses from LLMs

Experience in team lead / technical lead capacity that follows a Scrum/Agile development methodology

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge about natural language processing, hands on experience is preferred

Understanding of different infrastructure architecture designs

Experience partnering with product and engineering leaders to deliver high‑quality technology solutions

Excellent personal communication, organization, and time management skills

Awareness of new and emerging technologies and the ability to present their benefits and drawbacks to a large engineering organization

Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and understanding in developing AI/ML infrastructure on cloud services

Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non‑technical teams

Education Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is:

$83,430.00 - $203,940.00
