Deputy General Counsel – Insurance & Regulatory Affairs

Deputy General Counsel – Insurance & Regulatory Affairs (Contract 3‑6 months) – Remote. Morae Global Corporation seeks a highly experienced and strategic senior legal counsel to lead legal and regulatory initiatives across our property & casualty (P&C), reinsurance, program business, surplus lines (E&S), and risk exchange structures. The successful candidate will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel – Corporate Legal Affairs, providing enterprise‑wide legal coverage, and collaborating with cross‑functional stakeholders to align legal strategies with business objectives. Key Responsibilities

Legal Counsel & Risk Management

Provide expert legal advice on underwriting, claims handling, product development, and distribution strategies. Guide legal considerations for both admitted and non‑admitted insurance markets, including E&S lines. Structure and support reinsurance, risk exchange, and captive arrangements in compliance with applicable laws.

Regulatory Compliance & Strategy

Oversee regulatory compliance programs and ensure adherence to state and federal insurance laws. Serve as the primary legal contact for state Departments of Insurance, including managing inquiries, filings, and examinations. Advise on NAIC model laws and evolving regulatory trends impacting the insurance industry.

Enterprise Collaboration & Legal Alignment

Collaborate closely with underwriting, claims, compliance, and finance teams to ensure coordinated legal support. Proactively identify legal and regulatory risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Leadership & Team Development

Lead and mentor a team of attorneys and compliance professionals focused on insurance and regulatory matters. Foster a high‑performing, collaborative, and ethical legal culture.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Minimum 10 years of legal experience with a strong focus on insurance law, including: Property & casualty insurance. Reinsurance and captive structure. E&S lines and surplus lines markets. MGA and program business operation. Deep familiarity with NAIC model regulations, state insurance regulatory environments, and insurance distribution channels. Demonstrated ability to manage regulatory relationships and support enterprise compliance function. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Contract Details

Full‑time: ~40 hours per week Contract length: 3‑6 months minimum with potential for renewal Work setup: Remote; must be authorized to work in the U.S. Preferred Qualifications

Prior in‑house legal experience at an insurance carrier, MGA, or reinsurer. Experience with multi‑state regulatory filings and licensing. Strategic thinker with a strong business acumen and the ability to influence cross‑functional decision‑making. About Morae Global
