General Overview Job Title:
Director, Design Engineering
This position is for a Director, Design Engineering, responsible for leading and managing multiple programs and teams developing the firmware/Software for Celestica’s or Celestica’s customer products. The responsibility includes setting the strategic direction for the team, collaborating with different internal and external stakeholders for timely delivery of the products with the highest quality. The Director will be playing a key role in driving the New Product Initiatives by enabling the team to prepare the technical proposal, estimation and planning. Also the role will demand regular interactions with executives and major customers. Interactions may involve program readouts, understanding and responding to customer technical and non-technical requirements and also responding professionally and proactively to potential problems/escalations. The candidate must be a thought leader and be forward thinking. Additionally, as a people leader, he/she will hire and groom a team of high performing technical leads/architects/ /managers, working with them on objective setting and professional development initiatives. The candidates with prior experience in firmware development for storage, networking and AI compute servers, with strong leadership and excellent communication skills are suitable for this position.
Detailed Description
Leads more than one high-performance software team that works with multiple layers of firmware from the lowest level drivers to higher layers of specialized stacks for AI Compute/AI storage products
Takes the lead in NPIs
Drives the KPIs and achieving agreed targets for key performance indicators
Coaches and mentor the leads in understanding their strengths and weakness
Reviews and interprets customer requirements/specifications and may act as primary customer contact.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including hardware design, other software teams, program and product management
Sets yearly budgets, plans and goals for the team, give direction on expected performance, provide regular performance evaluations and ongoing feedback.
Provides recommendations and drive continuous improvement on the objectives
Works with the team to elevate strategic thinking, elevate domain skills
Keeps up to date with the industry knowledge and contributes to tech forums
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
Prior hands-on with LINUX Kernel/drivers, PCIe, BMC, BIOS/BSP
CPU/GPU based compute server firmware development
AI workload/Orchestration
Networking Data path knowledge
Strong SW engineering and product development experience
Physical Demands Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience 17+ years of experience with a minimum 10 years of experience as manager/Senior Manager/Director
Typical Education Bachelor degree or higher education in Engineering
