Overview The GBS Group, an engineering services and technical consulting firm headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, has an opening for an Electrical Designer / CAD Operator. Designers and Drafters work alongside our world class engineering staff consisting of USCG licensed Maritime Engineers, Professional Engineers, and former shipboard operators. Propulsion, generator and steering controls designs developed by The GBS Group are deployed throughout the world on the most advanced naval and commercial maritime ships. Our office is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and the downtown Norfolk Waterfront shopping district.

Responsibilities

Develop or revise drawings for various engineering disciplines, including shipboard HM&E (hull, mechanical & electrical).

Develop drawings, check dimensions of units, connections, and relate components to the whole structure or project.

Track detailed comments and their resolution across multiple vessel classes to ensure all end products are consistent with governing documents and specifications.

Assist clients to deliver a higher level of standardization and consistency through drawing processes, quality checks, engineering practices, and continuous improvement philosophy.

Perform surveys and ship checks, analyze as-built drawings redline mark ups and other correspondence.

Provide technical review and redline/markups of engineering drawings and designs.

Perform drawing updates in AutoCAD 2004 or later to support engineering teams to create new or revise existing drawings or convert drawings.

Track and manage incorporation of drawing technical and administrative comments from multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Prepare detailed technical reports to support initiatives and implementation as required.

Qualifications

Three to five years of experience in design and technical drafting in the preparation of shipboard drawing packages.

AutoCAD 2004 Drafter III, equivalent or greater.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Desired Characteristics

Prior Navy experience preferred.

Knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics and other physical sciences to complete drawings.

Electrical experience in shipboard power and lighting.

Strong work ethic, dedication, organizational skills.

Ability to multi-task.

Strong interpersonal, attention to quality, computing, and presentation skills.

Must work well in a team dynamic.

Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to occasionally work evenings/nights.

Ability to travel occasionally.
