Connectivity & Hardware Support Engineer
Location:
New Jersey (Clifton, Princeton, Weehawken, Secaucus and Somerset)
Salary:
Up to $75,000
We are recruiting for Engineers to work within a team carrying out cabling infrastructure and network hardware support at client sites. The work will include all types of patching, break-fix, circuit provision and recovery, disconnect/reconnect of desktop and networking equipment, rack and stack of Data Centre Hardware (e.g. Server, Network and Storage), and provision of connectivity to Data Centre Hardware. The position will be site-based as required and reports to the Service Delivery Manager.
Key Requirements:
Ability to work on multiple client sites across allocated regions.
Availability for out-of-hours working, including participation in an on-call rota covering evenings and weekends.
Flexibility to work shift patterns Monday to Friday (07:00–16:00 and 14:00–23:00) with weekday overtime and weekend work as required.
Responsibilities:
Monitor the client’s ticketing system, ensuring tickets are assigned and completed within SLA.
Audit and document existing cabling installations.
Audit and document desktop configurations, including patching and power, for existing and proposed user locations.
Compile patching schedules as required.
Use cable management software for patching planning.
Power down, disconnect, and label desktop equipment and peripherals for reconnection.
Complete IMAC-D of all desktop equipment and peripherals.
Perform data wiping activities using software tools.
Carry out all types of patching/jumpering including voice & data, copper & fibre.
Conduct testing and fault finding on copper and fibre cabling infrastructure using modern testers.
Complete copper voice and data terminations as required.
Maintain accurate stock records, update as stock is used, and advise line manager of requirements or shortfalls.
Carry out surveys and update drawings and schedules.
Install and test analogue, digital, and VOIP telephone handsets, providing headset support where necessary.
Build, rack, and stack network and server hardware in data centre environments and provide connectivity.
Perform network hardware break-fix activities (e.g. replacing power supplies, modules, fans).
What We’re Looking For:
Experience in voice and data cabling environments.
Experience working in Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC) environments.
Strong understanding of modern computer network infrastructure.
Practical experience with fibre and copper cabling, including terminating, testing, and fault-finding techniques.
Knowledge of rack and stack procedures for server hardware and systems.
Good knowledge of service and asset management tools (e.g. ServiceNow).
Strong knowledge of server patching.
Understanding of LAN/WAN and active devices.
Ability to use modern handheld cable standards testers, light source, and power meters.
